About Modibo Sankaré

CORE EXPERTISE

Modibo Sankaré practices at the intersection of US law and francophone African legal systems — a space that demands more than legal knowledge. It demands cultural fluency, institutional relationships, and the kind of market knowledge that only comes from having operated on both sides. His practice covers three areas where that intersection is most consequential: cross-border investment facilitation for transactions in West and Central Africa, legal and commercial diplomacy advisory for African missions operating in the United States, and US immigration law for African nationals, diplomatic personnel, and investors.

OHADA AND AFRICAN MARKETS

His OHADA law expertise — covering the unified commercial law framework that governs business law across seventeen francophone African countries — is among the most specific and operationally significant credentials he brings to cross-border mandates. Most international attorneys advising on African transactions treat OHADA as background context. Sankaré treats it as the starting point. Combined with direct experience navigating the regulatory environments of WAEMU and CEMAC member states, and established relationships within African diplomatic, governmental, and investment networks, this gives clients a legal partner who understands the full architecture of a francophone African transaction — not just the US side of it.

BACKGROUND AND FORMATION

Before establishing Sankare Law International in New York, Sankaré built his legal foundation across three continents. His academic formation spans Boston University School of Law and the Université Paris X Nanterre — giving him parallel grounding in common law and civil law traditions that underpins his cross-jurisdictional practice. He has worked on complex cross-border transactions at international law firms, engaged with international banking and development finance institutions, and advised African entrepreneurs and emerging market enterprises navigating both African and US regulatory environments. He is admitted to the New York State Bar.

LANGUAGES AND ACCESS

Fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Soninké, Sankaré operates across the linguistic and cultural registers of his client base without friction. For investors and project sponsors working across francophone Africa, this is not a convenience — it is a material advantage in every negotiation, regulatory engagement, and institutional relationship that a mandate requires.
